ADCP2016 Spring Workshop

ADCP2016 Spring Workshop will be held in Aix-en-Provence, France, as a session of TMCE2016. 
TMCE2016: Eleventh International Symposium on Tools and Methods of Competitive Engineering
9-13 May, 2016, Aix-en-Provence, France

Introduction
ADCP workshops offer a forum for presentation and discussion to bring advanced theories and technologies to the design and simulation of complex equipment and products, with a focus on computational design and evaluation methods and tools.  ADCP2016 is taken as one session of TMCE2016, jointly organized by TU Delft and Tsinghua University based on a large MOE project, NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation Committee of China) projects, the Oversea Innovation Team Project of Tsinghua University, and MOE Joint Laboratory of Innovative Design and Manufacturing of Advanced Mechanical Systems. The theme of ADCP2016 Spring Workshop is practice-based modelling and simulation of products.

Lecture Abstract:
The objective of design is to create a product that fulfills prescribed product requirements. The product can be a software system, a machine, a plan, or a policy. Therefore, design, especially innovative and creative design, affects greatly every part of our everyday life.  In this talk, a new design methodology Environment Based Design will be introduced for a step-by-step procedure to support the generation of innovative and creative design solutions. This includes its semantic foundation – ROM (Recursive Object Model) and its three components using ROM – Environment Analysis, Conflict Identification, and Solution Generation. Examples will be given to show how EBD has been applied to different industrial sectors. Future trends in this research will also be discussed.

Learning objectives of the course:
Students develop an advanced understanding of rehabilitation robotics system, devices and problems related to motor impairment. This includes the physiological background covering biomechanics and human sensory systems, specific for the task. Students understand and apply modern modelling and control techniques as well as advanced sensor applications.

Content of the course:
1. Introduction, historical review, example impairments, human‐machine interaction, example
applications
2. Physiological background, human sensory systems
3. Human motor pathologies
4. Review/recap multi‐body systems, two‐port representations, interaction stability
5. Robot aided gait therapy, compliant actuator designs and feedback control
6. Hybrid modelling of humanoid motion (Lagrange based approach/hybrid systems)
7. Introduction to biomechanics modelling (muscle and joint mechanics, Hill model and
extensions, EMG)
8. Trajectory control (Impedance control / linearisation / advanced concepts: Iterative learning
control)
9. Advanced sensor applications (Body sensor networks / Data fusion / Segment orientation
estimation, Extended Kalman Filter and advanced data fusion algorithms)
Course Organisation: The course consists of a two 90 min lectures and two 45 min exercises, both
held weekly.
